FROM TIME TO TIME WE WILL BE LOOKING FOR A GUARDIAN HOME. PLEASE CHECK HERE FOR UPDATES OF THE NEED:
Currently we ARE NOT looking for a guardian home, if you are interested, feel free to apply.
Please read through carefully, Thank you
We strongly believe that all of our breeding dogs should be part of a family, and that is why we choose to find guardian homes while the dog is a puppy. We will never have adult dogs available unless one is returned to us. We feel the best way to have a happy dog is to not rip him/her away from our family and place the loved pet into a new family only because they have come to the end of their breeding. Their well-being is a top priority for us, and our guardian program is designed to enhance the lives of our breeding dogs.
Our program offers responsible and fabulous families who live in the Edmonton area the opportunity to take home an intact puppy that we select from one of our litters, or a new pup that we bring in for our program. This puppy lives with you as part of your family, and receives socialization, training, love and care. When it is old enough, it will be part of our breeding program for a select number of litters. This requires that it spends some time with us at our facility during the breeding process.
Once the dog has completed its time as part of our breeding program, it is our responsibility to spay/neuter the dog. We sign full ownership over to you, and the dog will be yours forever.
Before entering a guardian program arrangement, we sign a contract with you outlining all of the details and timelines, so everyone knows what to expect.
It's important to us that our guardian program families understand the responsibility of raising a future breeding dog, and that they are happy to communicate regularly with us and work together. Our guardian families are chosen with great care and attention. As a Guardian Home you will be required to pay for the everyday expenses of owning a dog including illness and annual exams, vaccines, food, etc. We will pay for all breeding related costs including health testing.
To become a Guardian Home is not for everyone. You MUST be willing and able to follow these requirements:
*Feed the dog food as per our recommendations of premium, quality food. Raw is preferred
*Provide socialization and regular age appropriate exercise
*Own their home, have a fenced yard for safety and never leave the dog outside unattended
*Have no other intact dogs in the home
*Practice regular grooming required for a poodle
*Have previous experience with dogs.
*Be willing to take to training classes taught by an experienced professional ( no Pet store classes)
*Be willing to socialize puppies. This is very important!!!!!
*He/She must be an indoor pet and never left unattended outside.
*All other dogs in the home MUST be spayed or neutered if they are the opposite sex.
*Willing to let us, the breeder, visit your home.
*Contact Breeder immediately in the event of a serious illness or accident.
*Send a copy of all vet visits to Breeder.
*Must not allow he/she to mate with any dogs.
*Provide veterinary care when needed.
If you are a guardian for a female dog, you must be willing to drop her off for 1-2 weeks while she is bred. Then drop her back off 1 week prior to her whelping date. She will stay with us until the puppies are weaned. About 8 weeks
If you are a guardian for a male dog, you must be willing to drop him off for 3-5 days for breedings unless arrangements are made ahead of time for us to pick him up.
Be able to communicate with us, the breeder, about scheduling testing, mating, whelping, and anything else breeding related.
Becoming a Guardian Home gives you the opportunity to have one of our top notch, "Pick of the Litter" puppies as a family pet. Rather than buying this puppy you will be putting down a $2500.00 DEPOSIT that will be RETURNED at the end of his/her breeding career. TopHat Parti Poodles will retain ALL breeding rights. Once retired, he/she will be neutered/spayed at our expense and returned back to you.
If you're interested in applying for or learning more about our guardian program, please contact us through the Waiting List page and fill out the questionnaire and be sure to check the box for guardian home.
